Culturally specific film clips
Cultural inequality within Minnesota's healthcare system is on the rise. This motivated a movement in the medical field to work towards closing the ever-growing gap and inspired the creation of four culturally specific (Hmong, Latino, African-American and Somali) screenplays, commissioned from authentic writers.
The plays were acted by local ethnic actors and filmed in English and non-English languages by Twin Cities Public Television (tpt), co-produced with HealthPartners Institute for Education and Research.
The films use narrative storytelling to reveal a range of disparities members of diverse communities experience. Each film tells the story of an ethnic family struggling with health issues and the health system. The films are used to stimulate discussion and improve understanding related to culture and health.
